ASHLAND, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College softball team was unable to to come away with a victory against Ashland University, falling in both games of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) double-header 8-0 and 11-1 on Tuesday (April 2).
The Storm (2-14) were unable to produce runs in game one as Ashland slowly built their lead, scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth inning en route to the win. Jen Moore and Kourtney Yarnall each hit a homerun in the game for the Eagles as Amber McDermontt limited the Storm to just two hits. Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) and Olivia Gilmour (Garfield, Ohio/Trinity) recorded hits for the Storm.
In game two, the Eagles scored a run in each of the first two innings before the Storm got on the board. In the bottom of the second, Gratz doubled to left field and was advanced to third by a sacrifice by Kyleah Burton-Smiles (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) and scored on an Ashland error to cut the led to 2-1 but it was not enough as Ashland tacked on nine more runs as they cruised the rest of the way on the way to the win. Gratz and Amanda Anderson (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) led the Storm with a double apiece while Burton-Smiles added a single.
The Storm are back in action Wednesday (April 3) afternoon for their home debut against GLIAC foe Wayne State University in a double-header.
