NORTH CANTON, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College softball team was unable to overcome a strong offensive performance from Walsh University, falling 9-1 and 10-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader on Friday (April 26) in North Canton, Ohio.
Walsh (18-20) scored the first run of the game when a Marissa Bondoni sacrifice bunt scored Eryn Simon in the second inning. After a scoreless third inning, the Storm (2-32, 0-24 GLIAC) tied up the game in the fourth. Meredith Scholle (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) singled and reached second on an error. Amanda Anderson (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) followed up with a single that drove Scholle in to tie it at one but Walsh quickly reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame, 2-1. After holding the Storm off the board in the top of the fifth, the Cavaliers rallied to score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Erin Ebert earned the win for Walsh, allowing just one run on three hits. Simon led the Cavalier offense with two hits and three runs.
In game two, Walsh outpaced the Storm as Bondoni held the Storm to just one hit while striking out 11. Simon led Walsh with two RBI and two runs.
The Storm is back in action Saturday (April 27), traveling to Notre Dame College for a nonconference doubleheader.
