Strong Pitching Lifts Notre Dame Past the Storm

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College softball team was held at bay by strong pitching as they fell to nonconference rival Notre Dame College 5-0 and 10-0 Saturday (April 27) in South Euclid.

The Falcons (16-16) took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first in game one and did not look back as pitcher Ashley Harbarger held the Storm to just one hit while striking out nine. Jessica Cavalerro led Notre Dame on offense with four RBI and one run on two hits, including a two-run homerun in the opening inning.

Mackenzie Quinn (Ypsilanti, Mich./Milan) had the only base hit for the Storm, a double.

The Storm met the same fate in game two. After three scoreless innings, the Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Notre Dame went on to score seven runs over the following two innings to seal the win. Harabarger picked up the win on the mound once again, allowing two hits and striking out three.

Jeniffer Gratz (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) led the Storm with two hits while Chelsey Bleck (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) recorded a double.

The Storm is back in action Sunday (April 28) for their season finale doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Tiffin University. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
