PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College softball team was unable to overcome a strong offensive effort from Tiffin University in their season finale, as they fell in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doublheader, 9-0 and 11-1, on a rainy senior day in Painesville Sunday (April 28).
In game one, Caitlin Houk connected on a first-inning two-run homerun for Tiffin (22-24, 15-11 GLIAC) as the Dragons slowly grew their lead from that point on. After Tiffin took a 2-0 lead in the first-inning of game two, the Storm cut the deficit in half in the top of the second. Chelsey Bleck (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) reached on a fielders choice and advanced to thrid on a failed pickoff attempt and a wild pitch. A Katarina Davis (Independence, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) groundout drove Bleck in. Tiffin, however, scored six in the bottom of the second and added three more in the third for the win.
Madison Yanek picked up the win for the Dragons, pitching three innings, allowing one run on five hits. Gamm led the offense with three RBI and two runs. Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside) had two hits for the Storm.
