Storm 7-2 After a Perfect Day Four

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they swept a triple header.  The Storm defeated St. Cloud St., 6-1 in game one, in game two the Storm took down Georgian Court, 4-2, and to finish the day they defeated Seton Hill, 4-1.  With the swept the Storm is now 7-2 on the season. 

In game one the Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the first with a solo homerun.  Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) had a big two out double in the second to drive in Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) and tie the game at 1-1.  Later in the inning after a Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) single moved Birtley to third, Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) drove home Birtley to give the Storm a 2-1 advantage.  The Storm loaded the bases with three straight singles by Birtley, Urgo and Rizzo in the fourth.  Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) drove in Birtley with a single up the middle and the bases remained loaded.  The next batter up Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) singled to left and drove home Urgo.  Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled and scored Rizzo to give the Storm a 5-1 lead in the fourth.  Later in the inning Doershuk reached on a fielder's choice which drove in S. Karako.  Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) finished her complete game and shut down the Huskies, as the Storm won 6-1. 

In game two, Lake Erie jumped out to an early 1-0 when E. Karako doubled to the left center gap to plate Rizzo.  The game remained 1-0 for till the fifth when the Lions tied the game at 1-1.  The game remained scoreless until the ninth when Nicole Grimmett (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) drove home Alexis Kane (Hillard, Ohio / Hillard Bradley) to give the Storm a 2-1 lead in extra innings.  The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Urgo gave the Storm the lead in the 10th with a single up the middle to score Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty).  Later in the inning Rizzo reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Birtley, to give the Storm a 4-2 advantage.  Deemer closed the door in the bottom of the tenth and the Storm won, 4-2.        

The Storm opened the scoring in game three when Rizzo doubled to the right center gap to score Urgo.  Later in the inning, E. Karako singled home Rizzo to make the score, 2-0 in favor of the Storm.  After both Urgo and Rizzo reach on singles E. Karako doubled to the left center to drive in both runners and make the score 4-0 in the fifth .  The Griffins scored a run in the sixth and made the score 4-1 in favor of the Storm.  Shevenell closed out the game as she pitched a solid seventh to give the Storm a 4-1 win. 

In the circle for the Storm in game on was Deemer as she pitched a complete game to earn her fourth win of the season.  Deemer allowed one run on three hits, and sturck out five.  Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) started game two and pitched 5.2 innings.  Lewis allowed no earned runs on five hits.  Shevenell started the third game for the Storm and pitched a complete game to earn her second win of the season.  Shevenell allowed only one run on six hits, while striking out five.  The pitching staff for the Storm only allowed four runs in the three games today.    

Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan, and Lewis College at 9 A.M. and 11 A.M. respectively.
