Lake Erie College men's and women's swimming teams each sit in third place as a team after day one of the local John Carroll University Invite in University Heights, Ohio after picking up three individual wins.
"This is a different format for us but we certainly had some strong races and are excited to get back in the pool tomorrow and improve times in the shorter events," said Head Coach Nicole Rose.
The best races of the night came with a pair of first place finishes from freshman Lauren Menicucci (Reno, Nev./Reno) and Casey Wendall (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon). Wendall won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.67, over three seconds better than her previous top time in the event, while 2:31.16 in the 200-yard breaststroke was also her best competitive time in the event.
The men picked up a win from their top swimmer, freshman Daniel Torres (Chihuahua, Mexico) in the 200-yard backstroke. His race of 1:56.58 edged out Notre Dame's (Ohio) Ian Ward by just .63 seconds.
Events will continue tomorrow on the final day of competition.
