PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Freshman Dan Torres (Chihuahua, Mexico) won a pair of events while classmates Alex Brown (Reno, Nev./Galena) and Casey Wendall (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) each won one as the Lake Erie College swimming & diving teams wrapped up the two-day John Carroll University Swim Classic on Saturday (Nov. 20) in University Heights, Ohio.
Torres won both the men's 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard individual medley on Saturday, after winning the 200-yard backstroke on Friday. His winning time of 53.52 seconds in the 100-backstroke was actually slower than his preliminary time of 52.87, but was a full three seconds ahead of the race's runner-up, Jacob Lutz of Notre Dame College. He won the 400 IM in 4:15.57, which was two seconds ahead of the field.
In the men's 100-yard butterfly, Brown took first place with a time of 52.95, which was exactly a second ahead of the second-place swimming.
On the women's side, Wendall was nearly three seconds better than the rest of the competitors in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Lauren Menicucci (Reno, Nev./Reno) finished second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.95).
Both Storm squads finished third in the team standings.
Lake Erie is idle from competition for the remainder of 2010. The Storm returns to the pool after the new year on January 8, when it hosts Alma College and Malone University at the Perry Community Fitness Center Pool.
