GLIAC Championships Day Four Recap





CANTON, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College swimming teams wrapped up the final day of competition at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Joelyith Humpe (Rayland, Ohio/Wheeling Central Catholic) set a new Lake Erie mark in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.39. Casey Wandell swam a season-best 2:13.09 in the 200-yard butterfly which was good for a 14th place finish. Brittany Funk (Turlock, Calif./John H. Pittman) broke her own Lake Erie record in the 1650-yard free with a time of 18:42.95. Jennifer Scholl (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood), Ashley Rand (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown), Lauren Menicucci (Reno, Nev./Reno) and Humpe set a school record in the 400-free relay with a time of3:44.04 in their eighth-place finish. Scholl set the Lake Erie mark in the 100-yard free in the relay with her split time of 55.53.

The women finished The Championships with 91 points. 

Jordan Krumpelman (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Prepatory) picked up a 16th place finish in the 1650-yard free. Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia/X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) took fifth-place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:48.22. Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine/Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia) took 15th in the 100-yard free. Julian Milinkovskyi (Ukraine) earned a 16th place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. The relay team of Patrick Goelz (South Park, Pa./South Park), Krumpelman, Y. Milinkovskyi and Cizmar took seventh-place in the 400-yard free relay.

The men finished The Championships with 198 points.

The Championship marks the end of the season for most Lake Erie swimmers. Cizmar will be in action at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama in March in the 200-yard back. He could be joined by Yan Milinkovskyi and Julian Milinkovskyi who have hit provisional qualifying marks during the season.
