Storm Battle Tiffin in Pool

TIFFIN, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College swimming team opened the 2013 season with a second-straight Great Lakes Intercollegaite Athletic Conference (GLIAC) duel meet Saturday (Oct. 26) at Tiffin University.

The women's squad picked up a 94-34 victory while the men's squads drew at 69.

Casey Wendall (Lafayette, Ind./MCCutcheon) and Jennifer Scholl (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) led the Storm women with three first-place finishes apiece. Wendall calimed first in the 500 (5:52.90) and 1000-yard freestyle (11:53.32) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.32) while Scholl won the 100 (58.78) and 200-yard free (2:08.65) and the 100-yard fly (1:04.34). Meri Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia/X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) claimed the top spot in both the 100 (1:01.91) and 200-yard backstroke (2:13.17) while Lauren Menicucci (Reno, Nev./Reno) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.83) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.61) and placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ashley Rand (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown) had the other top finish for the Storm, coming in the 50-yard free (26.98), and claimed second-place 100-yard free. Martha Ruether (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone Central) and Michelle Kinney (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) had two second-place finsihes apiece- 200 and 500-yard free and the 1000-yard free and 100-yard fly respectively. Andy Armstrong (Troy, Ohio/Troy) took second in the 500-yard free. 

The 200-yard medley relay team of Cizmar, Menicucci, Scholl and Rand took first-place with a time of 1:56.74) while the 200-yard free relay team of Ruether, Rand, Wendall and Armstrong took first with a time of 1:53.58. 

On the men's side, Julian Milinkovskyi (Urkraine) led the Storm with three first-place finishes, coming in the 100 (1:02.46) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.44) and the 200-yard IM (1:54.33). Ivan Cizmar (Zagreb, Croatia/X. Gimnazija Ivan Supek) took first place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.25) and had two second place finishes in the 1000-yard free and the 100-yard backstroke. Yan Milinkovskyi (Zaporozhye, Ukraine/Academical Laceum of Zaporizhia) took finished first in the 100-yard fly and had second-place finsihes in the 200-yard fly and the 200-yard free. Ilia Platanov (Russia) placed first in the 200-yard free and had a second-place finish in the 100-yard free. David Thieshen (Bethal Park, Pa./Bethal Park) had a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard fly while Kaleb Brown (Indiana) took second in the 50-yard free. 

The mens 200-yard medley relay team of Jordan Krumpelman (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Prepatory), J. Milinkovskyi, Gabriel Green (Gilbert, Az./Mesquite) and Brown took first-place with a time of 1:43.74 while Brown, Cizmar, Y. Milinkovskyi and Platanov took second in the 200-yard free relay. 

The Storm is back in action Nov. 2 at Urbana University.
