Lake Erie tops in Florida relay dual

TAMPA, Fla. –  Lake Erie competed in a co-ed relay meet against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, and Storm swimmers combined to earn victories in 8-of-10 events.

 

LEC relays swept first and second place in three of the 10 events. Julian and Yan Milinkovskyi were both members of four winning relays on the day. Ivan Cizmar (three wins), Nickolas Garcia (two), Lauren Menicucci (two), Ashley Rand (two), Jennifer Scholl (two) and Casey Wendall (two) also had big days for the Green & White. The event was part of the Lake Erie men's and women's teams closing out their winter training trip to Florida.

 

The Storm swept first and second in 50-100-150-200, 3x500-yard shotgun and 400 free relays. Rand, Yan Milinkovskyi, Wendall and Ivan Cizmar won the 50-100-150-200 event, touching in with a time of 4:49.89. Ivan and Meri Cizmar teamed up with Julian Milinkovskyi to post a time of 5:50.63 in the shotgun relay. Joelyith Humpe, Martha Ruether, Scholl and Rand won the 400 free relay, carding a time of 3:59.38.

 

"I'm so impressed by our swimmers during this training trip and in today's contest," said LEC Head Coach Nicole Rose. "We are staying focused on technique as we continue to train volume."

 

Saturday's contest also included wins in the 3x100 fly relay (2:50.61 – Y. Milinkovskyi, Scholl, J. Milinkovskyi), 3x100 breaststroke relay (3:22.90 -- Menicucci, Bolda, J. Milinkovskyi), 4x200 free relay (8:39.37 -- Kinney, Funk, Wendall, I. Cizmar), 4x50 free relay (1:36.84 --  J. Milinkovskyi, Armstrong, Garcia, Y. Milinkovskyi), 4x100 IM (4:07.58  -- Menicucci, Garcia, Y. Milinkovskyi, M. Cizmar).

 

The Storm are scheduled to bring their act back north and continue their season on Friday with a road meet at Ashland (6 p.m.).
