Season-Highs Lead to Victory for Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (December 15, 2008) - Lake Erie College recorded four team season-highs on its way to earning an 87-68 win against Glenville State College Monday night at Athletic Center Arena. The Storm won for the second time in Painesville this season in as many tries as it shot a season-best 49.1 percent from the field (28-for-57). The green and white also hit a season-high 10 3-pointers on its way to scoring the greatest number of points this year. Additionally, the hosts had 19 assists, which is nine more than its next best total for the season.

Lake Erie opened the game on an 8-0 run courtesy of a pair of treys by sophomore guard Renese Ames (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) and a layup by sophomore forward Alyssa Wagers (Stow, Ohio/Stow). Glenville State then got hot, hitting its next three attempts from the field as well as two free throws to bring the score to 11-10 at 16:50. The lead changed hands a total of eight times in the half with Lake Erie holding the largest lead of nine on several occasions. The period ended with the Storm ahead 41-35.

The second period saw Lake Erie clicking on all cylinders as it outscored the visiting Pioneers 46-33, while shooting 52-percent from the floor (15-for-29) and 92-percent from the line (12-for-13). The Storm also scored 12 points off fast breaks which was 10 more than in the first half.

Ames led Lake Erie with 20 points and six rebounds, going 7-for-10 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point territory and 2-for-2 from the line. She also dished out a team-high four assists. Freshman center Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) added 15 points, six rebounds and three assists and Caiola finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Wagers led the team with seven rebounds and also contributed three assists and two steals.

Lake Erie (3-8) is on the road Friday at 1 p.m. against No. 8 Indiana (Pa.)
