Second Half Hustle Pulls Storm Into Game

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio (February 4, 2009) - Lake Erie College played each half Wednesday night as if it were two completely different teams as it lost on the road to Ursuline College, 73-63. The Storm struggled offensively in the opening half, shooting just 17-percent from the floor, making 6-of-35 field goal attempts. The host Arrows connected on 54-percent of its attempts from the floor (14-for-26) while making eight 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play to take a 40-17 lead into the break.

Lake Erie changed its tune in the second half, improving to 49-percent shooting from the floor while forcing Ursuline into 14 turnovers. The Storm outscored Ursuline 46-33 in the half, even cutting the deficit to as little as four with under 10 minutes remaining.

Sophomore Alyssa Wagers (Stow, Ohio/Stow) turned in one of her greatest performances of the season, recording her third double double of the year with 11 points and 18 rebounds. She also had three steals. Sophomore Renese Ames (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) led the team with 18 points - 16 of which came in the second period. Freshman Jen Caiola (South Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) had 17 points and four rebounds.

Lake Erie (6-17) hosts Urbana at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Lake Erie has lost to the Blue Knights twice so far this season - once in neutral territory, 71-68 and once at Urbana, 69-49.
