No. 8 California Controls Storm

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (January 7, 2009) - Lake Erie College lost to No. 8 California (Pa.), 100-33, on the road Wednesday night. It was the Storm's fourth game in just six days. Despite the box score, it wasn't Lake Erie's defense that gave up 100 points, but rather the team's offense as it turned the ball over 32 times. The Vulcans made just four 3-pointers and only a handful of jump shots, as the majority of the team's points came in the paint or off of fast-break layups.

Storm freshman Alex Ardo (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) led the team with nine points. Freshman Liz Stephens (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) scored eight points after going 4-for-6 in the first half.

Freshman Nikki Murphy (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) pulled down a team-high six rebounds and sophomore Sandi Nypaver (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) had five boards.

Lake Erie (5-12) hosts West Liberty State College at 6 p.m. on Thursday in its third straight game this week. The teams met up in the second game of the season back on Nov. 16 in the Wheeling Jesuit Classic, with the Hilltoppers winning, 81-68.
