Second Half Surge by Norse Sends Storm to Defeat

PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team struggled at the start of the second half as Northern Kentucky University went on a 17-2 run out of the locker room to break open a close game in a 75-55 win Saturday (Nov. 20) at the United Electric/Metro Medical Tip-Off Classic in Louisville, Ky.

Junior Stephanie Rogers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) was the only Lake Erie (1-2) player in double figures, scoring 14 points.  Freshman Jodie Jindra (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) had nine points.

The Norse (2-2) led by as many as 13 in the first half, but the Storm closed within six at the break thanks to a 7-0 run to make the score 36-30.

But the Storm could not continue the momentum it had at the end of the first into the start of the second as Northern Kentucky scored seven quick points to push the lead back into double figures, and then after a Rogers basket, reeled off 10 straight points to make the score 53-32 less than 4:30 into the half.

The Storm was limited to just 38.5 percent shooting, including only four-of-22 (18.2%) from three-point range. LEC also committed 24 turnovers.

Northern Kentucky hit on 48.3% for the game and had four players reach double figures.  Sadie Bowling and Ellen Holton shared game honors with 17 points.  Kendra Caldwell scored 14 and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench for the Norse.

Junior forward Jen Caiola (South Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) was named to the All-Tournament Team. She averaged 15 points in the two games.

Lake Erie is idle through the Thanksgiving holiday week.  The Storm returns to the court Dec. 2 when it opens Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Wayne State University.
