PAINESVILLE, OHIO – With the loss of eight graduated seniors and a sizeable recruiting class coming in there were plenty of new faces expected this season for the Lake Erie College women's basketball team. Head Coach Bob Booher is adding another new face with the addition of senior transfer Ashar Harris (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric/Morehead State) who will join the Storm for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
"Ashar brings a lot of experience and great rebounding numbers to a young team," Booher said. "She was a very strong player at the Division I level and should be a force in the paint this season."
Harris was a three-year starter at Morehead State University, averaging 10.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in her career. As both a sophomore and junior, she ranked third nationally in Division I at 12.4 rebounds per game, best in the Ohio Valley Conference. She was an All-OVC Second Team pick in 2011. She comes to Lake Erie with career totals of 920 points and 1,029 rebounds in 91 career games (86 starts). Her rebounding total ranked in the top five all-time at Morehead State.
A native Ohioan, Harris starred at Columbus Arficentric Early College where she won four varsity letters and helped lead the Lady Nubians to a pair of state championships. She averaged a double-double for her career and was part of four city and district championship teams, three regional title squads and one state runner-up team in addition to the two state title years.
The Storm open the 2012-13 season on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at home against Seton Hill University. The team will also co-host the "Taking the Court by Storm" Basketball Preview Night with the men's team on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
