Storm Women Tabbed Fifth, Murray and Harris Named to Preseason All-GLIAC South Team

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division in the annual preseason media poll released by the league office on Wednesday (Oct. 31) in conjunction with the GLIAC Basketball Media Day website launch.
The Storm (16-11, 10-9 GLIAC in 2011-12) received 95 points in the voting conducting by members of the media who cover the 16 member schools in the conference. Defending conference champion and national runner-up Ashland University took the top spot with 184 points and all 23 first-place votes. Tiffin University was picked second, followed by the University of Findlay and Hillsdale College ahead of the Storm. Lake Erie is followed by GLIAC newcomers Walsh University and Malone University as well as Ohio Dominican University.
Last year's North Division winner, Ferris State University, was tabbed to repeat this year with 174 points and 15 first-place votes. Perennial national power Michigan Technological University was second with 164 points and the other eight first-place votes.
In addition, senior post Ashar Harris (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric/Morehead State) and sophomore guard Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) were named to the preseason All-GLIAC South Division Second Team.

The 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Media Day Central Websites went live at 12 p.m. (EDT) on Oct. 31 and include information on the upcoming campaign with video season preview from each of the respective 32 head men's and women's basketball coaches in the GLIAC.
The 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Preseason Media Polls and the 2012-13 Preseason All-GLIAC Teams, selected by the coaches, were released in conjuction with the launch of the sites. Additionally, the GLIAC's annual preseason previews are featured, written by Sandy Gholston.
This year marks the third-straight season in which the league has launched the Media Day Central sites to promote the conference. Each head coach filmed a short video segment discussing their respective teams and the upcoming season.
The 2012 GLIAC men's and women's basketball seasons officially kick off with non-conference games on Friday, Nov. 9. The League begins Conference play on Thursday, Nov. 29.
The 2013 GLIAC men's and women's basketball tournament will begin with quarterfinal play on campus sites on Mar. 6. The tournament semifinals and finals will be held on Mar. 9-10 at the site of the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals.
