PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team returns to the court on Sunday, Dec. 30, with an exhibition game at Cleveland State University. Tip-off against the Division I Vikings is set for 2 p.m. at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland.
The game will be the first in 11 days for the Storm (2-6) who last played Dec. 19 when they lost at home to Northwood University, 53-40. The contest against Cleveland State will also be the final game of 2012 for Lake Erie.
LAST TIME OUT: The Storm scored the game's first two baskets but struggled offensively from that point on in a 53-40 loss to Northwood (Box Score). No one reached double figures for Lake Erie, but three players – Ashar Harris, Chrissy Delaney and Sara Wojciechowski – each scored eight points.
SERIES HISTORY: This marks the fifth straight season the Storm and Vikings have faced each other, with Cleveland State owning a 3-0 mark in regular season games and a 1-0 exhibition victory in 2008. Last year, Lake Erie closed to within three points with nine minutes to go before the Vikings pulled away for a 62-48 win (Recap | Box Score).
VIKINGS VIEW: Cleveland State (7-4) carry a six-game winning streak into action and is unbeaten at home this season (6-0 including exhibition games). The Vikings last played Dec. 22 when they defeated the University of New Hampshire 58-47 at home. To date, CSU has been led by senior Shalonda Winton who is currently ranked third in DI in scoring at 22.6 points per game and 18th in rebounding at 10.8 rpg. Cori Coleman averages 12.9 points per contest.
THE FORECAST: The Storm open 2013 with a trip north to the Upper Peninsula for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend series starting Thursday, Jan. 3, at Michigan Technological University.
