LEC RINGS IN 2014 WITH ROAD TRIP TO THE U.P.: Lake Erie opens January with a Michigan double -- the Storm will be at Lake Superior State on Thursday and at Northwood on Saturday. LEC heads into the 2014 calendar year looking to shake a losing streak. The Storm have lost five straight games, and that spell comes on the heels of starting the season with five straight victories. Over the Storm's five straight losses, the offense has scuffled, producing just 57.4 points per game on a field-goal accuracy mark of 32.7 percent (97-of-297). A defense that was rolling early has yielded 75.0 PPG over the same stretch.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS: Lake Superior State has won just once this season, taking a 73-71 decision at Malone on Dec. 12. The Lakers head into their Jan. 2 game against LEC on a three-game losing streak. Two of those games Dec. 18-19) were neutral-site affairs in a tournament in Oahu, Hawaii. The Lakers haven't played since that Dec. 19 game. ... LSSU ranks last in the GLIAC, at 58.9 points per contest. Shooting has been an issue -- the Lakers rank among the league's bottom three in field-goal, 3-point and free-throw accuracy.

SCOUTING THE TIMBERWOLVES: Northwood heads into a Jan. 2 home game against Ashland playing .500 basketball (4-4) on the season. The Timberwolves are also .500 (2-2) in GLIAC play. Northwood ranks sixth in the 16-team circuit in scoring thus far, at 75.4 PPG. The Timberwolves have been led by sophomore F LAUREN ROBAK, who scored 20 points in NU's last game (Dec. 14) and is averaging 16.5 PPG. ... The Timberwolves offense has been taking good care of the basketball -- Northwood ranks third-best in the GLIAC, committing just 14.4 turnovers per game.
