Greeting Cards: LEC welcomes two Mentor standouts

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Storm Women's Basketball announced today that Christine Dawson and Kayla Gabor have committed to continuing their respective basketball careers at Lake Erie. Both Dawson and Gabor are seniors at Mentor High School and have been four-year varsity players for Head Coach Steve Thompson, whose Cardinals have won back-to-back district titles the last two seasons.

Dawson is a 6-foot-1 post player who is currently averaging 13.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. The daughter of David and Sharon Dawson was a 2013 Northeast Ohio Conference honorable mention.

"Christine is a defensive force in the paint," said Lake Erie Head Coach Bob Booher. "Her ability to block or alter shots will be a tremendous addition to our defense. She is becoming a strong scorer around the basket, and she'll become an even better scorer in the college game."

Gabor is a 5-foot-10 guard who is averaging 18.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season. The daughter of Steve and Sherrie Gabor was a 2013 All-NOC First Teamer and a 2012 All-NOC Second Teamer.

Booher sees Gabor as a versatile, two-way player: "Kayla is a scorer – she'll knock down a three and can also take it to the basket and score. She'll handle the ball and can find the open teammate. Defensively, she has great length for a guard."

Both Dawson and Gabor are captains on a 2013-14 Cardinals squad that is currently 11-3 on the season.
