Storm Victorious Over Ohio Valley

VIENNA, W.Va. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was victorious today over Ohio Valley, 74-57.  With the win the Storm improves to 3-2 overall and with the loss the Fighting Scots fall to 1-4. 

The first quarter was a back and forth battle in which the game was tied or the lead changed hands seven different times.  The Storm entered the second quarter with an 18-15 advantage and were led by Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) who had seven points and four rebounds.

Ohio Valley fought back to tie the game late in the second quarter before the Storm regained a 25-24 lead when Sophie Sonneman (Jamestown, Ohio / Greeneview) hit a jumper and then converted the three point play as she hit her foul shot.  The Fighting Scots rode their momentum and took a 31-27 lead into half time.  The Storm was a perfect 9-9 from the foul line in the first half. 

Lake Erie opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run that gave the Storm a 34-31 advantage.  The run was highlighted by a pair of baskets by Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) that were assisted by Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton).  Lake Erie ended the third quarter on a 15-3 run and took a 53-43 lead into the final quarter.  The Strom was led by Gabor who had 12 points in the game entering the fourth quarter. 

Lake Erie continued to pull away as they opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 61-43.  The Storm maintained their advantage and defeated the Fighting Scots, 74-57.

The Storm was led by Gabor as she had a game high 18 points.  Skelton added 12 points and had a team high nine rebounds.  Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) also had double digit points with 11 and added five rebounds.  Narducci had a game high four assists and pitched in with eight points.  As a team the Storm shot 18-19 (94.7%) from the foul line.   

Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (December 3rd) when they travel to open conference play against Ferris St. at 6 P.M.
