Storm Comeback Falls Short Against Findlay

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today (Feb. 13) by the University of Findlay, 61-56.   

The Storm battled with the Oilers for the first five minutes of the first quarter and entered the media timeout trailing 12-8.  Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) cut into the Oilers lead for the Storm as she hit a three after the media timeout to make the score, 12-11.  The Storm continued to battle and entered the second quarter trailing 14-11. 

The Oilers opened the second quarter on an 11-3 run; the run was ended by Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) as she hit a layup to cut the Oilers lead to single digits, 25-16.  The Storm went on a quick 5-0 run and cut the Oilers lead to 27-21 with just under five minutes remaining in the half.  The run was highlighted by Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) as she had an assist and hit a layup.  The Storm fought for the remainder of the half, and entered the intermission trailing, 36-29.  The Storm was led by Gabor as she had 10 points and three rebounds.  Narducci also had seven points, and three steals.     

The Storm was able to trim the Oilers lead to single digits 43-34, as they entered the media timeout in the third quarter.  After the timeout the Oilers regained a double digit lead and entered the fourth quarter ahead, 49-39. 

The Storm battled early in the fourth and with just under five minutes remaining Carpenter hit a pair of foul shots to cut the Oilers lead to 53-47.  The Storm continued to battle and cut the Oilers lead to 55-50 as Gabor made a layup off of an assist by Narducci.  The Storm was unable to complete the comeback and fell, 61-56. 

The Storm was led by Gabor as she had 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Carpenter added 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Narducci added nine points, and a game high four steals.  Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) pitched in with nine points and a game high 10 rebounds. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (February 18th) when they travel to take on Tiffin at 6 P.M.
