Storm Opens 2017 At Home Against Bulldogs, Lakers (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- After three games on the road, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team will return home to the Osborne Center for a pair of GLIAC games this week. The Storm will host Ferris State at 5:30 PM on Thursday (Jan. 5) and #21 Grand Valley State on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 1:00 PM.

Storm Report: Lake Erie ended 2016 with a 4-8 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the GLIAC. On Saturday (Dec. 31), the Storm fell to Daemen 73-59 in the Storm's final non-conference game.

Coach Booher's Take: "It will be good for the team to play at home after almost a month away. Ferris State brings good size and top post player Rachel McInerney on Thursday. Saturday's matchup with Grand Valley State features a 9-3 team that has been ranked as high as 10th this year with a number of players capable of scoring in double figures." 

Gabor's Milestone: Storm junior Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) became the ninth player in program history and first since 2012, to join the 1,000 career points club. With 15 points at Daemen, Gabor now sits at 1,001 points. She leads the team and the GLIAC with an average of 19.6 points per game.

Opposition Position: Ferris State travels to Painesville with a 3-9 overall record and a 2-4 GLIAC record. The Bulldogs opened the New Year with a 66-49 win over Salem International. Rachel McInerney leads the Bulldogs with 15 points per game. Grand Valley State is ranked #21 in the country, with a 9-3 overall record. The Lakers are 4-2 in the conference. Grand Valley defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 82-53 on December 31st in a non-conference matchup. Bailey Cairnduff is the leading scorer for the Lakers with 11.0 points per contest.

Series History: Lake Erie has won two straight matchups with the Bulldogs. In six games, Ferris State has won four of the six. Last season, Lake Erie won 66-45 with Gabor leading the way with 15 points. In eight matchups with the Lakers, the Storm has a 2-6 record. The Lakers won the matchup last season 70-54. Gabor led the Storm with 15 points.  

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will travel to Tiffin and Walsh for two road matchups next week.
