PAINESVILLE, OHIO – With the first tee time of the 2013-14 season about a month away, Lake Erie College head golf coach Milt Johnson announced Tuesday (August 6) that a trio of local student-athletes have signed with the Storm women's team.
Incoming freshman Joan Graziano (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), Nicole Grimmett (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and Taylor Pitts (Madison, Ohio/Madison) join early signee Emily Long (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) to make up the 2013 Lake Erie recruiting class. (Click here to read about Long's signing)
"I am really excited about this year's incoming class, which is full of very talented players," Johnson said. "I expect that these four young ladies will all compete for a spot in the lineup from the get-go and dramatically improve our performance as a team."
Graziano, Grimmett and Pitts combined for 11 varsity letters during their high school careers. Below is biographical information on the Storm's recent signees.
PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Earned four varsity letters at Mentor High School… named the 2012 Northeast Ohio River Division Conference Player of the Year… two-time All-News-Herald Second Team… Academic All-Ohio selection and News-Herald Player of the Week recipient… also was a four-year letterwinner and two-year captain in lacrosse for the Cardinals… Academic Letter winner.
PERSONAL: Born June 1, 1995… parents are Deanna Smith and Doug Graziano… undecided on a major.
PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Earned three varsity letters in golf at Geneva High School… honorable mention Northeast Ohio Girls Golf Coaches Association selection… first-team All-Ashtabula County… was a member of multiple conference championship teams…. Named a Scholar-Athlete…. Also was a standout in softball, earning second-team all-conference honors.
PERSONAL: Born Aug. 26, 1995… parents are Larry and Theresa Grimmett… plans to major in Adolescent/Young Adult Education.
PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Earned four varsity letters total in golf at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin and Madison High School… played two years on the boy's team at Madison before helping establish the first girl's program at the school her senior year… played on state championship team as a freshman at NDCL… also lettered in cheerleading.
PERSONAL: Born May 15, 1995… parents are Joe and Linda Pitts… plans to major in Pre-Physical Therapy.
