Six Members of the Storm Named to All-GLIAC Team

BAY CITY, Mich.-- Six members of the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team were named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams announced Friday (May 3), headlined by First-Team honorees attackers Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and Meredith Howe (Fayettevile, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and defender Alex Freeman (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt).

Midfielder Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy), defender Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta/National Sport Academy) and goalkeeper Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario/Anderson C.V.I) were named to the Second-Team.

In her senior season, Julia Kudla recorded a school record 132 points on 46 goals and 86 assists, another program-high. Nationally, she ranks third in points and second in assists. She has also collected 52 draw controls and 51 groundballs. Classmate Meredith Howe scored a school record 70 goals, sixth most in the country, while assisting on 27 more for 97 points. Howe has also collected 27 groundballs and 36 draw controls while causing 13 turnovers. Alex Freeman rounds out the First-Team selections for the Storm. The junior has started every game on defense, collecting 33 groundballs and causing 20 turnovers. On the offensive side, Freeman had one goal and one assist on the season.

Hana Abu-Kwiek was on second on the team in goals with 53 while assisting on 11 more. The sophomore caused a team-high 27 turnovers and collected a team-high 52 groundballs. Samantha Gryba, a junior, was a solid contributor on both sides of the ball. She tallied 21 points on 16 goals and five assist while collecting 19 groundballs and 15 draw controls while causing eight turnovers. Goalkeeper Katy Holden rounded out the All-GLIAC selections for the Storm. The freshman made 16 starts, winning a program-best 12 games, making 77 saves and collecting 15 groundballs.

Grand Valley State University's Allyson Fritts and Alyssa Neuman took home the GLIAC Attacker of the Year and Defender of the Year respectively. Jessica Bombard of Tiffin was named Goalkeeper of the Year while the University of Findlay's Sarah Lankton won Freshman of the Year. Grand Valley head coach Alicia Groveston earned Coach of the Year honors.
