PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College women's lacrosse fell to Grand Valley State University 19-8 Sunday (April 6) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.
After the Lakers netted the first two goals of the game, Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) got the Storm on the board with a goal assisted by Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt). After Abu-Kwiek's goal, the Lakers went on a 5-0 run to gain a 7-1 advantage. West halted the Grand Valley run with her first goal of the game. After the Lakers added one more, West brought the Storm back in to the game by scoring three straight goals to cut the lead to 8-5, but the Lakers added a late goal on a free-position shot to own 1 9-5 advantage at half.
West continued to pour in the goals for the Storm, netting the first goal of the second half, assisted by Abu-Kwiek. The Lakers went on a 4-0 run to regain control of the game. Trailing 13-6, Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) netted an unassisted lead the stop the Laker run. Miller added a second goal late in the half but it was not enough to overcome the Grand Valley, who scored six more to seal the win.
West ended the game with five goals and one assist. Miller had two goals while Abu-Kwiek had two points on a goal and an assist in addition to her team-high four groundballs, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. West and Moser had three draw controls. Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont./Anderson C.V.I.), West and Miller had two groundballs.
Amanda Getto (Medina, Ohio/Medina) made 10 saves in a relief effort.
The Storm returns to the road on Friday (April 11) for a GLIAC game against Urbana University.
