PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College Athletic Director Reid Guarnieri officially announced the hiring of Mallory Ferrandiz as the Women's Lacrosse Head Coach on Friday (July 18).
Ferrandiz joins the Storm family after serving as the first assistant at Belmont Abbey College for two seasons. She helped lead the Crusaders to two Conference Carolina semifinal appearances. In her first season, four Crusaders earned All-Conference honors in addition to the Conference Carolina Freshman of the Year award. Last season, three Crusaders earned All-Conference honors. The Crusaders also had the groundball statistical leader in Division-II in 2014.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity Reid Guarnieri and the Lake Erie College community has given me to be their next head women's lacrosse coach," said Ferrandiz. "I am very excited to develop strong young women and to strive for success on and off the field. Our goal will continue to be top contenders in the GLIAC as well as in Division-II. I can't wait to get started and become a part of the Storm Family!"
Prior to coaching at Belmont Abbey, Ferrandiz held assistant positions at St. Joseph's College and her alma mater, the University of New Haven. Her duties at St. Joseph's included scouting opponents, recruiting and community service during their inaugural year. At New Haven, Ferrandiz assisted with strength and conditioning in addition to game planning, fundraising, community service, recruiting and monitoring her student-athlete's academic progress while helping the Chargers finish the 2011 season ranked 10th in the country. Ferrandiz has also served as a coach for Eli's Girls Lacrosse and Sayville Girls Summer Lacrosse Camp.
Ferrandiz had a decorated collegiate playing career as a midfielder at Division-II University of New Haven. She earned All-American honors and became the school's first player to earn First-Team All-IWCLA honors in 2009. Ferrandiz was named the Northeast-10 Conference Championship MVP for her efforts in leading the Chargers to the Northeast-10 conference crown and lifted her team to the NCAA Quarterfinals while peaking at number six in the national rankings that year. She also earned three All-North Regional and Northeast-10 All-Conference Team selections, including two First-Team selections to each. As a freshman, she was named to the All-National Rookie Team. A two-year captain and two-time Team MVP, Ferrandiz finished her career at New Haven with 213 points on 146 goals and 67 assists. Off the field, Ferrandiz was a member of SAAC for four years.
"Lake Erie is thrilled to start a new chapter in women's lacrosse with the hire of Mallory Ferrandiz," said Guarnieri. "As a former Division II All-American and through her prior involvement in SAAC as a student and administrator, Coach Ferrandiz truly understands the commitment we have to a Life in the Balance. She has the positive approach and wherewithal we sought to provide our student-athletes with a fresh start and to take them to new heights in the classroom and on the field."
Ferrandiz earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2009 and a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from New Haven in 2014. She will start on July 28.
