Green, Patrick Win Individual Titles at Laker Open

ERIE, PA. – Lake Erie College wrestlers earned two individual titles and fourth other top five finishes at the 2012 Laker Open at Mercyhurst University on Saturday (Nov. 17).

Freshman Almonte Patrick (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) and junior Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville), who wrestled unattached, won the heavyweight and 184-pound weight classes, respectively. 

Patrick posted a perfect 4-0 record on the day, including a fall in the first 30 seconds of his opening match, and improved his season mark to 5-1. He finished second at last week's University of Mount Union Invitational.

Green posted a 3-0 record, pinning Tony Lisek, formerly of South Dakota State University, at 4:37 in the finals to win the 184-pound division.

Sophomore Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), who also wrestled unattached, defeated junior Jared Merritt (Cranesville, Pa./Northwest) by major decision 10-2 in the consolation finals at 174 pounds to finish in third place in that bracket.  Zivcic was 3-1 on the day while Merritt went 4-2.

Junior Tom McVicker (South Fork, Pa./Forest Hills/Penn Highlands) was 2-2 and finished fourth at 133 pounds while freshman Jacob Peasley (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) won five matches and finished fifth at 157 pounds with a 5-2 mark while wrestling unattached. 

A total of 14 Lake Erie wrestlers competed at the Mercyhurst meet.

The Storm, which wrestled as a split squad Saturday competing at Merychurst and at home in a quad meet, are off until following the Thanksgiving holiday break when they host Seton Hill University on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.
