Wrestlers Set to Face #12 UPJ and Millersville on the Road This Weekend

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College wrestling team embarks on a challenging road trip this weekend, starting Friday night (Jan. 11) at 12th-ranked University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.  The Storm then heads to Millersville University on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 12).

Lake Erie (6-2, 0-1 GLIAC) is listed among others receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association national poll.  The Storm enters the weekend ranked sixth in Region 2 and have eight wrestlers ranked regionally at their respective weight classes.

Sophomore All-American Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) is ranked third nationally at 165 pounds and has won nine straight matches to improve his individual mark to 19-5 overall.  He posted a 4-0 mark at both the Midwest Classic and the Storm Open to win his weight class at the previous two meets.

The Mountain Cats (4-2), a perennial national power at the DII level, have won three dual matches in a row including a 28-19 win at Millersville last weekend.  UPJ has three returning All-Americans and a pair of current nationally-ranked wrestlers headlining their lineup.

The Storm is 0-2 all-time against UPJ, falling 25-9 last year at home.

Millersville (0-2) is in its first year as a DII program after transitioning from the Division I level. The Marauders were 2-14 a year ago and finished eighth in the Eastern Wrestling League in their final DI season.
