PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College wrestling team will host its annual "Youth Wrestling Night" when the Storm returns to the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center on Wednesday, Jan. 23, to host nonconference rival Gannon University at 7 p.m.
All area youth, middle school and high school wrestlers, along with parents and coaches are invited to attend and take part in the event and be guests of the Storm as they take on the Golden Knights. Admission will be free for youth, middle school and high school wrestlers and their coaches.
"We had a nice crowd last year when we held this event for the first time, and we hope to really see our numbers grow this year, said Lake Erie head coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "This is a great way for us to recognize the hard work by all of the young wrestlers in the area and for them to see our team in action and get to learn a little bit about what we do here at Lake Erie College."
Last year the Storm upset 13th-ranked West Liberty University, 25-12, on Youth Night. This season, Lake Erie is 8-3 overall and defeated 18th-ranked Ashland University 27-17 on Tuesday night, Jan. 15. The Storm also received votes in the most recent NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association national poll.
