Three Place for Lake Erie at Purple Raider Open

ALLIANCE, OHIO – Three Lake Erie College wrestlers earned top-four finishes in their respective weight classes Sunday (Jan. 20) at the University of Mount Union Purple Raider Open. 

Junior Tyler Tesny (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) finished as the runner-up at 174 pounds, posting a 4-1 mark on the day and reaching the finals before dropping a 9-5 decision to Mercyhurst University's August Mizia.

Freshman Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) took third place at 157 pounds.  After losing his second match, he battled back through the consolation bracket to win four straight in dominating fashion.  His final four victories came by major decision, technical fall, fall and fall, wrapping up a 5-1 day with a pin of David Bergida of Virginia Tech.

Sophomore Jon Schafer (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) went 3-2 at the event and finished fourth at 184 pounds. 

Three other Storm wrestlers earned at least two victories at the event.  Eighteen members of the Lake Erie wrestling team competed.

The Storm returns to dual action on Wednesday night, Jan. 23, hosting Gannon University.
