BEREA, OHIO – Freshman Cobey Fehr (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) and sophomore Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Lakeland) took home individual titles to lead the Lake Erie College wrestling team at the 27th annual John Summa Memorial Tournament Saturday Feb. 2) at Baldwin Wallace University.
In addition to the two first-place finishes, the Storm also posted two seconds and a third to place fifth in the eight-team event.
Fehr cruised to the title at 141 pounds, winning his first three matches by pin, 11-0 major decision and a 12-5 decision before pinning Jordan Dyer of SUNY-Brockport at 6:15 in the finals. Zivcic won his first two matches at 174 pounds by decision before posting a 9-0 major decision over Jerrold Roose of Thiel College.
Freshman Devin Smith (Salem, Va./Salem) finished second at 184 pounds and classmate Almonte Patrick (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) took second place in the heavyweight division after retiring with an injury at the 6:25 mark.
Redshirt sophomore Mikey Samijlenko (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) placed third at 197 pounds by winning his final four matches and finishing the day with a 5-1 record. His five wins were the most by a Storm wrestler at the tournament and four came by decision, including a 4-1 win in the consolation finals of Waynesburg University's Travis Kuhn. Kuhn had defeated Samijlenko earlier in the tournament.
The Storm will be idle for a week until hosting the second Lake Erie Quad of the season on Saturday, Feb. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Opponents include Mercyhurst University, King College and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe, the University of Findlay.
