PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College wrestling team is listed among teams receiving votes for the in the final regular season NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll released Wednesday (Feb. 13). It marks the fourth straight time the Storm has received votes for the Top 20 poll.
Last weekend the Storm (11-6 overall) posted a 1-2 mark at the Lake Erie Quad II, suffering close loses to then seventh-ranked University of Findlay (22-14) and King College (21-15) before upending No. 13 Mercyhurst University (19-16). Findlay dropped two spots in this week's poll to ninth, while Mercyhurst moved up three positions to 10th. King is listed just in front of the Storm among others receiving votes.
Individually, sophomore Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) remains second at 165 pounds. Vandermeer went 3-0 last week, including a win over defending national runner-up Mason True of Findlay, to earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Wrestling Athlete of the Week" honors.
With their regular season now complete, the Storm are idle until the NCAA Super Regional 2 Feb. 23-24 at Ashland University.
