Wrestling Announces Recruiting Class and 2013-14 Newcomers

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Coming off a fantastic third season that saw the school send three to the national championships and have at least one wrestler earn All-American honors for the second straight year, Lake Erie College wrestling coach Kevin Hoogenboom and his staff have bolstered the Storm's roster with a strong recruiting class heading into the 2013-14 season.

A total of 16 new student-athletes are joining the program this year. Included in the group are three state finalists and a pair of high school All-Americans, a first for the Storm program.

"We are very excited to welcome this talented group of young men to our program and the Storm family," Hoogenboom said. "This class is full of competitors both on and off the mat. They are great wrestlers and great students.

"This is now our fourth full recruiting class and possibly our most talented overall to date. We feel the added depth will make us a solid team this season, as we now have at least three quality wrestlers at each weight class. There are over 15 state medals coming in with this class and they are going to push our upperclassmen. The competition for starting roles is going to be very tough, but that will make us better as a team and as teammates."

PERSONAL:  Born March 13, 1995… son of Pete and Carol Vandermeer… younger brother of Storm All-American wrestler Matt Vandermeer… Criminal Justice Major.

Coach Hoogenboom's comments:  Nick comes to Lake Erie with the same credentials that older brother Matt did, and Matt has gotten off to a great start in his career as our first All-American. Nick won the state championship at 152 pounds last year in Michigan and then went on to wrestle over 50 matches at the club and national level during the offseason. He's a tough competitor who will challenge guys in our room immediately because he's faced some of the best competition the U.S. has to offer and he should be ready to make an immediate impact.
