PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Numerous Lake Erie College wrestlers reach the national and regional rankings in the latest Basford Rankings released Thursday (Dec. 12).
As a team, the Storm is pegged at 13th in the country and sixth in Region Two. The Storm is off to a 7-2 start this season.
Zak Vargo (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), Tyler Tesny (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) and Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Lakeland) are all mentioned in the national rankings. Vargo is ranked at the two slot at 157-pounds and first in the Region Two. Vargo recently finished with a 5-0 record at the Newberry Duals, picking up four pins. Tesny earned his first national ranking after upsetting the third-ranked wrestler in the country at 165-pounds at the Newberry Duals, finishing the day with a 4-0 record. Tesny currently sits at sixth in the country and second in Region Two. Zivcic earned a special mention in the national rankings at 174-pounds and is third in Region Two.
In addition to Vargo, Tesny and Zivcic, 133-pounder Austin Gillihan (Corry Area, Pa./Corry), 141-pounder Dylan Kager (Shalersville, Ohio/Crestwood) and Evan Rosborough (Concord Township, Ohio/Riverside) are ranked sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Regional Rankings.
The Storm are in action this weekend (Dec. 14-15), competing in the 35th Annual Midwest Classic held at the University of Indianpolis.
