Lake Erie Finishes Strong at Third Annual Storm Open

PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- Lake Erie College Wrestling hosted the Third Annual Storm Open Sunday (Jan. 5), welcoming some of the top talent in the country. 

After falling by decision in his first bout of the day to Cleveland State University's Riley Shaw, Heavyweight Almonte Patrick (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) picked up two straight decisions in the consolation bracket, including an 8-5 decision over Kent State University's Jordan Marrero. Patrick followed up the two decisions with a first round pin over Gannon University's Bradley Beiter. Patrick fell in the next round to Cleveland State's Amon Willis, putting him in the fifth-place match but forfeited due to injury, placing him in sixth-place. 

Camerin Adkins (El Mirage, Az./Dysart) picked up a decision over Gannon's Nigel Toussaint in the first round at 197-pounds but fell to the University of Pittsburgh's Alen Turcinhodzic) in the quarterfinals. Adkins recovered from the loss to pick up a an 11-4 decision over Gannon's Trevor Beiter but ultimately fell by decision to Cleveland State's Corbin Boone. 

165-pounder Tyler Tesny (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls), who is currently ranked sixth in the country, picked up a pinfall against Indiana University's Wyatt Wilson before falling to Ohio State University's Bo Jacob. Tesny then bowed out of the tournament due to injury. 

Heavyweight Bobby Zappitelli (Painesville Twp., Ohio/Lake Catholic) and 157-pounder Jacob Brown (Jefferson, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley/Waldorf) also recorded a win. 

The Storm travel to Des Moines, Iowa next weekend to compete in the prestigious NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals for the first time in program history.
