PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College wrestling team is looking to make a major impact this weekend at the Super Regional Two Championships held in Tiffin, Ohio.
STORM SCOUT: The Storm is having their best season to date, accumulating a 13-8 dual record and a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship. The Storm split their most recent duals, besting West Liberty University at home on Feb. 20 before narrowly falling at Gannon University the following night. 2013 national runner-up Zak Vargo (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) has been in the top-three of the 157-pound national rankings all season.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Junior 133-pounder Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) leads all D-II wrestlers with eight technical falls this season. Freshman 197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord Twp., Ohio/Riverside) ranks in the top-10 with 11 pins.
REGIONAL EVENT INFORMATION: The Regional event features 17 teams, tied for the biggest region in D-II. The top-five wrestlers in each class move onto the Division II National Championships held in Cleveland March 14-15. Updated brackets after each round can be found here.
REGIONAL RANKINGS: The Storm roster has seven participants this weekend ranked in the top eight of the region in the latest Basford Division II Regional Rankings. Vargo is ranked first in the region while Rosborough is ranked second. Tyler Tesny (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) enters the event ranked fourth at 165-pounds. Gillihan and 174-pounder Dylan Zivcic are ranked seventh while 141-pounder Dylan Kager (Shalersville, Ohio/Crestwood) and heavyweight Bobby Zappitelli (Painesville, Twp., Ohio/Lake Catholic) are eighth.
