OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – All-American freshman Evan Rosborough has been named to the 2014 Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team.
Rosborough, a 197-pounder who went 35-16 and placed eighth in the NCAA-II national Championship Tournament in March, was the only DII grappler among the six athletes at 197 tabbed by the magazine in their annual appraisal of freshman wrestlers across all levels of collegiate wrestling.
"This is tremendous, for Evan to be recognized like this," said Lake Erie Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "It's really something special; there are only a few Division II wrestlers who made this elite list."
The AWN All-Rookie Team, in fact, recognizes six freshmen in each of the 10 NCAA weight classes. Only four of the 60 grapplers honored are NCAA-II performers.
Rosborough helped lead Lake Erie to the College's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in any sport when the Storm swept aside three foes in the league's 2014 title duals on Feb. 1. The Concord Township, Ohio, native went 3-0 with a pin and a major en route to earning First Team All-GLIAC and GLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors on that day.
Later in February, he qualified for his first NCAA championship by placing third in LEC's regional title appearance. In the national championship brackets, Rosborough placed eighth.
