Storm Wrestling Announces Recruiting Class and 2014-15 Newcomers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio— After sending a program record four wrestlers to the NCAA Division-II Wrestling National Championships and earning two All-American honors for the first time in 2013-14, head coach Kevin Hoogenboom and his staff looks to bring the program to the next level with a strong recruiting class heading into the 2014-15 season.

"I'm excited for our fifth season," said Hoogenboom.  "We have the strongest group of core wrestlers returning in the history of program with eight wrestlers returning with national tournament experience and three All-American. With those student-athletes and our new class and it should be an exciting year."

14 wrestlers will join the Storm in the fall looking to make an impact.  The recruiting class includes numerous state qualifiers from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana as well as three All-Americans.

"This class is strong on the mat and in the classroom," continued Hoogenboom. "There are several multiple-time state placers and guys who have national tournament experience. This group is very dedicated which is what it takes at the college level. Many of these guys will challenge for spots immediately with some providing exceptional depth. Every weight class will be contested this season and our wrestling room will be more competitive than ever.  It's a great time to be part of storm wrestling ."

Ross Bahro

133/141 lbs. (Keego Harbor, Mich./West Bloomfield)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at West Bloomfield…three-time All-State and All-County selection…finished fourth at states in 2014…won county championship…help lead the Lakers to the 2014 League Championship…finished career with a school record 180 wins


Alec Benedetti  

133 lbs. (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year letterwinner and senior year captain at North Royalton…2013 NOC Champion at 126-pounds…placed seventh at states in 2014…finished high school career with a 99-40 record


Nick Boggs

141/149 lbs. (Concord, Ohio/Riverside)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year letterwinner and three-year captain at nearby Riverside…two-time state qualifier and placer…2014 High School All-American…2014 Top Gun Champion…two-time All-Conference first teamer…took fourth at the NHSCA Senior Nationals in Virginia Beach…two-time team MVP…finished career with a 148-31 record


Matthew Canon  

133 lbs. (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at Elyria...earned All-American honors at 110-pounds at the Fila Cadets and at 119-pounds at the Nuway National Duals…state qualifier and district champion in 2012…All-Ohio selection…helped the Pioneers win three conference championships


Chayse Csongedi

141/149 lbs. (Parma, Ohio/Parma)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year member and three-year letterwinner at Parma…four-time district qualifier…earned four NOC All-Conference honors…two-time scholar athlete…helped the Redmen to three NOC LEL Championships…finished high school career with an 81-27 record


Joshua Davis 

133/141 lbs. (Haubstadt, Ind./F.S. Reitz)

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Four-year member and two-year captain at F.S. Reitz…three-time state qualifier and two-time semi-state finalist…placed fourth at states in senior year…three-time sectional champion…conference and regional champion in 2013…Brook Babb Mental Attitude Award winner in 2014…named to Academic All-City Team selection…Century Club winner…member of the Reitz Wrestling Hall of Fame…helped the Panthers win the sectional title in 2013…finished high school career with a 136-23 record


Mitchell Franklin
