#23 Storm Travels to #2 Notre Dame College (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team will make the short drive to nearby #2 Notre Dame College for a dual on Tuesday (Jan. 23) night. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.

"We asked a lot of our young guys against Ashland and they fought hard. The scoreboard didn't show it, but we had a lot of good takeaways. As we make our way back to 100%, we will again have a lot of our younger guys in the lineup," said Storm head coach Kevin Hoogenboom. 

Storm Report: Lake Erie fell 39-7 to #4 Ashland on Saturday (Jan. 20) night on the road. #10 Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins) were victorious in the 125 and 157 pound weight classes, respectively. The Storm enters the matchup with the Falcons with a dual record of 3-4.

Opposition Position: The Falcons are currently ranked #2 in the NCAA Division II coaches' poll. They have nine nationally ranked wrestlers. Notre Dame defeated #16 West Liberty by a final score of 36-7 with

NCAA Rankings: Lake Erie dropped eight spots in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association Poll, released January 19th. The Storm is tied for 23rd. Glogouski is ranked tenth in the 125 pound weight class. Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) is ranked seventh in the 165-pound weight class while Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) is ninth in the 184-pound weight class.

Technical Falls Leader: Vandermeer was named as the Division II leader in technical falls on Monday (Jan. 15) by the NCAA. Vandermeer leads D2 with six tech falls, totaling a span of 28:07 minutes. He has picked up tech fall victories in duals against Kutztown and Upper Iowa at 165 pounds. He also picked up tech fall victories at the Mount Union Invite, Findlay Open and Midwest Classic. Forecast: The Storm will travel to Belmont Abbey for the Regional Duals on Friday (Jan. 26) and Saturday (Jan. 27).
