PAINESVILLE, OHIO-- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team continued its 2012 season with a 2-0 nonconference loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Mercyhurst University on Tuesday night (Oct. 9) in Painesville.
Neither team were able to find the back of the net in the first half, with Mercyhurst holding a 7-5 shot advantage. Storm (3-8-1, 2-4-1 GLIAC) goalie Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) recorded four saves in the half while her Laker counterpart Brooke Morrison made three saves.
Mercyhurst (5-7-1, 1-7-1 PSAC) broke up the scoreless tie in the 65th minute when Katie Michaelis' cross was headed in by Perrin Kern from seven-yards out to put the Lakers in front 1-0. Olivia Resch sealed the win in the 73rd minute with a shot that floated over the head of Stroope from 35-yards out for their second goal of the half.
Stroope ended the game with seven saves, while three members of the Storm-Grace Ferut (Medina, Ohio/Medina), Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood), and Meghan Ambrose (Lyndhurst, Ohio)-recorded two shots apiece.
Morrison recorded four saves in the shutout for the Lakers.
The Storm head to Michigan this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches, visiting Saginaw Valley State University (5-2-4, 4-1-3 GLIAC) on Friday (Oct. 12th) in University Center before taking a short trip to Midland on Sunday (Oct. 14) to face Northwood University (4-6-1, 4-3-1 GLIAC).
