PAINESVILLE, OHIO—Kaitlyn Holland's pair of late first half goals lifted the Storm past the University of Findlay, 2-1, on Thursday (Oct. 4) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at The Britt in Painesville.
The Oilers (2-6-1, 2-3-1 GLIAC) cracked the board in the 24th minute with an Eryn Weber goal from less than three yards out. Down one, Storm senior Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) scored two goals in two minutes to end the first half. Holland's goal in the 41st minute, assisted by Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ontario/Catholic Central High), deflected off a Findlay defender and into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Two minutes later, Holland raced past the defenders, beating Findlay goalie Kelsea Corns from eight yards out to put the Storm ahead 2-1 heading into the second half.
The Storm (3-6-1, 2-3-1 GLIAC) defense held onto the 2-1 lead in the second half, holding the Oilers to six shots. Goalie Megan Baldacci recorded six saves in the win.
Holland, who leads the Storm with four goals on the season, scored two goals on five shots to lead the offense. The two goals were the most by a single Lake Erie player this season.
The Storm return to action on Sunday (Oct. 7), hosting Tiffin University (1-2-2, 3-4-2) at 4 pm at The Britt.
