ASHLAND, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's soccer team fell short in a close 1-0 game at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Ashland University on Friday (Oct. 19) in Ashland, Ohio.
The lone goal of the game did not come until the 82nd minute, when Ashland's (6-10-0, 5-6-0 GLIAC) Bethany Lang floated a shot from eight-yards out over Storm (3-11-1, 2-7-1 GLIAC) goalie Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) to break the scoreless tie. The Storm were unable to respond to the late goal.
Despite the loss, the Storm played well throughout the game. Stroope ended the game with six saves. Chrissy Poulos (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) led the Storm with two shots, while Robin Hames (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby), Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood), and Michele Chicarell (Madison, Ohio/Madison) recorded a shot apiece.
Rebecca Plescia collected five saves in the shutout for the Eagles.
The Storm return to action on Sunday (Oct. 21), traveling to Columbus, Ohio to face GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican University at 2 pm.
