Nationally Ranked Grand Valley State Topple Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's soccer were unable to overcome a strong start from Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leading, and nationally-ranked, Grand Valley State University, dropping the match 3-0 on Friday (Oct. 26) in Painesville.

The Lakers' (14-1-2, 10-1-1 GLIAC) offense pressured the Storm (3-13-1, 2-9-1 GLIAC) throughout the first the half, finally cracking the scoreboard in the 28th when Ashley Botts scored her 10th goal of the season off a corner kick to put Grand Valley State up 1-0. The offensive pressure yielded a second goal in the 37th minute, this time from Jenny Shaba, putting the Lakers ahead 2-0 heading into the second half.

Botts tacked on another goal in the second half to seal the Grand Valley State Victory 3-0.

Lakers' goalie Chelsea Parise recorded two saves in her 14th shutout of the year.

Storm goalkeepers Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) combined for nine saves-eight and one respectively.

The Storm conclude the 2102 schedule at home on Sunday to face GLIAC foe Ferris State at 1 pm. The Storm will honor its three senior members-Brittany Rabuano (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) and Kaitlyn "Skeeter" Holland (Pickerington/Ohio/Pickerington North)-before the start of the game in honor of Senior Day.
