PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's soccer team concluded its 2012 season with a 2-0 loss against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Ferris State University on Senior Day at The Britt in Painesville Sunday (Oct. 28).
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Ferris State (8-6-3, 7-4-2 GLIAC) outshot the Storm (3-14-1, 2-10-1 GLIAC) in the half, but goalkeep Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) made four saves to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a quick goal when Riley Wood scored from about five-yards out to put Ferris State ahead 1-0 in the 48th minute. Stephanie Garland sealed the Bulldgos win with a goal just three minutes later, 2-0.
Ferris State goalie Maddie Haustein recorded one save in the shutout.
Meghan Ambrose (Lyndhurst, Ohio) led the Storm on offense with two shots. Stroope collected ten saves in the loss.
The Storm end the season with a 3-14-1 overall record and 2-10-1 in the GLIAC. Kaitlyn Holland led the Storm with five goals and ten points. Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood), Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) and Payten Biskupski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Central) also contributed a goal. Chrissy Poulos (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ont./Catholic Central High), and Ambrose added an assist apiece. Goalie Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) led the Storm with three wins and 59 saves.
