Gaitsch Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team
PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College junior women's soccer player Lauren Gaitsch (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV NCAA Division II Women's Soccer First Team when the team was released late Thursday ( Nov. 1).
The Capital One Academic All-District IV team is selected by district voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Since 1952, the Academic All-America® program has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Student-athletes who earn first-team honors advance to the national ballot for consideration on the Capital One Academic All-America® Team later this month.
Gatisch helped anchor a Storm defense that allowed one goal or less in seven contests this season, including a pair of shutouts. Lake Erie posted a 3-14-1 overall mark in 2012, 2-10-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, but played 10 games decided by one goal or less and three others by two goals.
A two-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence recipient, Gaitsch started all 18 games for the second year in a row on defense. The psychology major took two shots on the season.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar‐athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
