Awuah and Stroope Earn GLIAC Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich.—Following weekend wins over Malone University and Walsh University, freshman forward Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and junior goalkeeper Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) have earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors. This is the first time a Lake Erie women's soccer player has earned either honor.

The Storm defeated Malone 4-1 on Friday (Sept. 30) and Walsh 2-0 on Sunday (Sept. 29) to improve to 3-5 on the season.

Awuah tallied seven points in the Storm's two games.  In the Storm's win over Malone, Awuah scored two-first half goals and assisted on another goal in the second half.  On Sunday, Awuah scored the eventual game-winning goal against Walsh University, lifting the Storm to the 2-0 victory.

Stroope did not allow a goal in two games to lead the Storm defense. Playing in just the first-half of the Storm's win over Malone, Stroope made three saves without giving up a goal. Against Walsh, Stroope went the distance, making five saves and a number of key plays in the box for the Storm's first shutout of the season and the first of her career.
