PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was unable to overcome a 3-1 first half Ohio Dominican University lead, falling to the Panthers 4-2 on senior day Sunday (Oct. 27) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.
Madison Baldwin gave the the Panthers the lead just two minutes in when she recovered a rebound from her own shot and converted the second chance from eight yards out. The Storm responded minutes later when Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) headed in a free kick from Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Cenral) following a foul in the pentaly box committed by the Panthers. Ohio Dominican reclaimed the lead in the 29th minute when Megan Augusta converted a corner kick from SummerBourcier. Emily Spencer added one more first-half goal for the Panthers, off a cross from Alexa Scardina, to give them a 3-1 lead going into the second half.
The Panthers added a second half goal on a header by Sydney Simpson off a Lauren Pratt corner kick to increase their lead to three. Nemec scored her second goal of the game in the final minute, but it was not enough as the Storm fell 4-2.
Laura Clark made three saves in net for the Panthers for the win.
Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) and Samantha Wiles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) combine to make 10 saves in net for the Storm- eight and two respectively.
The Storm conclude the 2013 regular season next weekend on the road at nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State University (Nov. 1) and Ferris State University (Nov. 3).
