PAINESVILLE, OHIO – After debuting in the fall with four matches, the Lake Erie College women's tennis team resumes play on Sunday, Feb. 21, at home against the University of Findlay.
The Storm (0-4) and Oilers (2-13) will play at 2:30 p.m. at the Mentor Heisley Racquet & Fitness Club on Heisley Road in Mentor.
“I saw a lot of fight on the court and how we supported each other and stuck together (during the fall season),” said first-year head coach Joe Morgan. “It'll be interesting to see how we've improved since the fall. We spent a lot of time working on things during the winter and it will be good to see how we compete after a break.”
Freshman Emily Rose-Gray (Marine City, Mich./Marine City) emerged as the top singles player in the fall and will be expected to again lead the group this spring. Classmate Cassie Rideout (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and senior Hillary Marshall (Clifton Springs, Ohio/Phelps-Clifton Springs) are also back.
In addition, sophomore Rachel Smallwood (Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle) will be available full-time this spring after being limited to just one match in the fall due to her commitment with the Storm volleyball team.
Her addition will hopefully offset the loss of freshman Ashley Loch (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) who will be out for the spring with an ailment.
