MENTOR, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's tennis team broke through with a pair of individual victories Friday (Oct. 12) but the wins at first and fourth singles weren't enough to get into the win column as the Storm fell to visiting University of Findlay in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLAIC) match at the Mentor Heisley Racquet and Fitness Club.
The Storm (0-12, 0-12 GLIAC) got singles victories by freshman Cristina Suarez (Puebla, Mexico/Tecnologico de Monterrey) and senior Emily Rose-Gray (Marine City, Mich./Marine City). Suarez won her match over Viktoriya Shkola at first singles 6-3, 6-4, for her first collegiate win. In the fourth singles match, Rose-Gray dropped the first set before rallying to take out Jessie Adkins in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Findlay (2-10, 1-10 GLIAC) started the day with three wins in doubles action 8-5, 8-2 and 8-4. The Oilers also got a big win at fifth singles where Abbey Herrara beat junior Brittany Kelly (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) in a first-set tiebreaker before getting the straight sets win (7-6 [7-2], 6-1).
Lake Erie continues its final homestand of the season on Saturday, Oct. 13, with a 4 p.m. match against Hillsdale College.
