Storm Falls Short of Win in Home Opener

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (September 3, 2008) - Looking for its first win of the season, the Lake Erie College Storm fell short in the home opener at Athletic Center Arena in front of a crowd of more than 200, losing to nearby Notre Dame College in three games, 29-27, 25-15, 25-18.

The Storm was actually the first team to hit 25 in the opening game, however, the Falcons quickly rallied back to take it to extra points. In game two, the Falcons pulled away in the beginning, never allowing the Storm to regain its ground, which was what happened in the final game of the night.

Lake Erie totaled 32 kills, led by junior Katie Yanesh (Wickliffe, Ohio/NDCL) and freshman Michelle Naab (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) who each had six. Freshman Krista O'Conner led the team in digs with seven of the team's 34. The Storm's Jenni Laureno (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) had four blocks and freshman Lauren Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) had a team-high 17 assists.

Lake Erie (0-5) will compete in the Indiana (Pa.) Tournament this weekend. The green and white is scheduled to take on Salem International on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by the tourney host at 2:30 p.m. Action will continue on Saturday against Point Park at noon and Kutztown at 5 p.m.
